Quetta: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan, in collaboration with the provincial government, has recovered more than 1.26 million acres of state-owned land through a major operation. The total value of the reclaimed land is estimated at over Rs. 1.78 trillion (approximately Rs. 1,784 billion).
The operation was carried out under directives from NAB Headquarters and on the special instructions of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, with the objective of eliminating illegal encroachments on public land, protecting national resources, and ensuring transparent accountability.
More Than One Million Acres Recovered in 2025
According to NAB Balochistan, irregularities were discovered in the records of approximately 2.8 million acres of Forest Department land during 2025, prompting the launch of a comprehensive investigation.
As a result of the inquiry and subsequent enforcement actions, more than one million acres of government land were recovered during 2025 alone. The reclaimed land is estimated to be worth Rs. 1.37 trillion, making it one of the largest land recovery operations in Pakistan’s history.
Additional 260,000 Acres Recovered in 2026
NAB continued its operations in 2026 and successfully recovered approximately 260,000 acres of land across several districts, including Quetta, Gwadar, Lasbela, Hub, Sherani, and Sibi. The estimated value of this recovered land stands at Rs. 414.2 billion.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Land Mafia
NAB Balochistan has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against illegal occupation of public lands and land mafias. The bureau stated that all actions are being carried out in accordance with the principles of law, transparency, and impartial accountability.
Land Records to Be Digitized
To prevent future irregularities, the Government of Balochistan is introducing a modern land management system. The digitization of land records is currently underway, while the project to digitize land records in Gwadar has entered its final stages.
Officials stated that the recovered land is being handed over in phases to the Forest Department and the Wildlife Department so that it can be utilized for public benefit and environmental conservation purposes
