UN Strongly Criticizes Afghan Taliban, Demands Immediate End to Discriminatory Policies Against Women

Islamabad (Web Desk) — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly criticized the Afghan Taliban’s continued discriminatory policies against women and called for the immediate removal of all unjust restrictions imposed on them.

Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the continued violations of women’s fundamental rights and freedom of expression in Afghanistan. He said the Taliban’s anti-women policies constitute clear violations of human rights and have severely affected Afghan women in every sphere of life.

The UN Secretary-General emphasized that restrictions on Afghan women are among the major obstacles to Afghanistan’s economic development, stability and integration with the international community. He specifically called for the immediate lifting of restrictions preventing Afghan women from working with the United Nations and other institutions.

Meanwhile, human rights experts have also warned that severe restrictions on women’s education and employment under the Taliban have made the situation increasingly critical. The continued deterioration of human rights and political freedoms in the country remains a major concern for the international community.
