Quetta: The Balochistan High Court has suspended all proceedings related to an FIR registered against Opposition Leader and Member of National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai until the next hearing.
The court was hearing a petition seeking the cancellation of the FIR when it issued a stay order and directed authorities to halt further action.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Kamran Malikhel and Justice Gul Hassan Tareen heard the case and issued notices to the state, adjourning the proceedings.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Kamran Malikhel observed that the petitioner is a Member of Parliament and enjoys parliamentary privilege, questioning why he approached the High Court directly instead of parliament or a trial court.
The court also asked whether the matter could have been addressed at the parliamentary level.
Lawyers representing Mahmood Khan Achakzai argued that the FIR was politically motivated and contained legal irregularities. They requested the court to either quash the FIR or at least suspend its proceedings.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered a stay on all proceedings related to the FIR and issued notices to the state for further response. The next hearing date will be announced later.
