Mumbai (Showbiz Desk): Habiba Jaffrey, wife of renowned Bollywood actor and comedian Javed Jaffrey, has allegedly fallen victim to an investment fraud worth Rs 162.4 million (16 crore 24 lakh rupees).
In this high-profile case, Mumbai's municipal administration took immediate action and suspended its Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Patil.
According to the police, Habiba Jaffrey was persuaded to invest in a residential construction project in Mumbai, where the accused promised substantial profits and high financial returns. The complaint states that forged documents were also prepared to make the investment appear legitimate.
On Habiba Jaffrey's complaint, a fraud and forgery case has been registered against six individuals, including Mahesh Patil.
Police said that after the case was registered, the nominated government officer allegedly absconded, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the accused.
