Mumbai (Showbiz Desk): Renowned Tamil filmmaker and actor Bharathiraja has passed away in Chennai at the age of 84. He had been suffering from age-related health complications and a respiratory illness.
The Tamil Film Directors Council confirmed his death and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
Actress and politician Khushbu Sundar, in her condolence message, said that Bharathiraja’s passing is a great loss for Tamil cinema. According to her, his creations will continue to inspire future generations, and he has left behind a priceless legacy for the film industry.
Bharathiraja is widely regarded as a pioneer of portraying rural life and realistic social settings on the silver screen in Tamil cinema. During his long artistic career, he created numerous memorable films and worked with celebrated artists including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Sivaji Ganesan.
His final work as a director was a segment of the popular anthology drama series Modern Love Chennai, released in 2023.
