Case on Night PSL Matches Under Floodlights Reaches Court Amid Power Crisis

Lahore (Sports Desk) Due to unannounced electricity load shedding across the country, the issue of holding PSL night matches under floodlights has reached the court.

A petition against conducting Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches at night under floodlights was heard in the Lahore High Court. The hearing was conducted by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal on a petition filed by citizen Ashba Kamran.

The petition has named the federal government, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Ministry of Water and Power as respondents. It states that the country is currently facing a severe electricity crisis and an unofficial load shedding schedule is affecting business activities and public life.

The petitioner argued that holding PSL matches under floodlights violates basic human rights. It was further stated that while the government is urging electricity conservation, night-time matches under floodlights are being organized.

The petition requested that PSL matches be held during daylight hours to save electricity, and also sought a ban on night matches along with an inquiry into the matter.

PCB’s lawyer opposed the petition, arguing that the board conducts matches using generators and does not rely on the national power grid.

The court directed the PCB lawyer to submit a response and adjourned the hearing until May 5.
