Grand Opening of Shandur Polo Festival 2026 at the World’s Highest Polo Ground; Inaugurated by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Shandur: The vibrant and prestigious Shandur Polo Festival 2026 has officially begun at the world’s highest polo ground. The three-day historic event is being jointly organized by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Pakistan Army. A large number of tourists and sports enthusiasts from across Pakistan and abroad are attending the festival.

Governor KPK as Chief Guest

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, formally inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. Addressing the opening ceremony, he described the timely and successful organization of the Shandur Polo Festival as highly significant for national unity, cultural harmony, and the promotion of tourism in the country.

Thrilling Clash Between Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, Paragliding Display Captivates Audience

On the first day of the festival, a highly exciting and competitive polo match was played between traditional rivals Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan teams. Both sides showcased exceptional skills, which were greatly appreciated by thousands of spectators present at the venue.

Alongside the match, a breathtaking paragliding display was also performed in the sky, captivating the audience and drawing enthusiastic applause.

Festival Continues for Three Days

It is noteworthy that the festival is being held at an altitude of more than 12,000 feet above sea level, making it the highest polo event in the world. The event will continue for the next two days, featuring traditional music performances and vibrant cultural dances that highlight the rich heritage of the region.
