Zil Hajj Moon Sighted in Pakistan; Eid ul Adha 2026 to be Celebrated on May 27

ISLAMABAD: The Zil Hajj 1447 AH moon has been sighted in Pakistan, officially marking the commencement of the holy month. Consequently, Eid ul Adha will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The formal declaration was issued following a plenary meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which gathered to collect and evaluate testimonies of moon sightings from various parts of the country.

Official Timeline of the Islamic Month

According to the notification, the first of Zil Hajj will fall on Monday, May 18, 2026. Based on the lunar calendar calculation. With the official announcement of the moon sighting, religious fervor has swept across the nation as citizens begin preparations for the annual ritual of sacrifice (Qurbani) to commemorate the sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Local administrations across major urban centers, including Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, have already started designating specific zones for cattle markets (Mandi) to ensure regulated trading and maintain public health standards. The federal government is expected to release the official public holiday schedule for the festive period in the coming days.
