US Imposes Visa Restrictions on 13 Linked to Indian Pharmacy Over Fentanyl-Laced Counterfeit Drugs

US Imposes Visa Restrictions on 13 Linked to Indian Pharmacy Over Fentanyl-Laced Counterfeit Drugs

The United States Department of State has announced visa restrictions on 13 individuals associated with an Indian online pharmacy, citing their alleged involvement in an international network trafficking counterfeit prescription drugs laced with the deadly synthetic opioid, fentanyl.

According to reports from Reuters, these individuals are closely linked to the Indian-based company “KS International Traders” and its owner. US authorities have identified the company as a key operator in an online pharmacy network that specialized in distributing illicit, counterfeit medication.

The Fentanyl Threat

The core of the US action rests on the discovery that the network was selling counterfeit pills containing fentanyl. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid, primarily intended for controlled pain management. However, its illicit distribution and misuse have caused a public health crisis in the United States, claiming thousands of lives annually.

US officials stated that these visa restrictions are part of a broader crackdown on global illicit supply chains that facilitate the flow of lethal synthetic substances into the country.

Key Highlights:

Targeted Entities: 13 individuals associated with "KS International Traders."

The Allegation: Distribution of counterfeit prescription pills containing fentanyl.

Policy Stance: The move underscores the Biden-Harris administration's ongoing efforts to disrupt the international precursors and drug-trafficking networks fueling the American opioid epidemic.
