Anti-Taliban Armed Groups Intensify Guerrilla Operations in Afghanistan
Guerrilla operations by armed resistance groups opposing the Taliban regime in Afghanistan have intensified, raising serious questions about the Kabul administration’s effective control and security claims. Opposition groups have claimed responsibility for coordinated and organised attacks in the provinces of Takhar, Parwan and Badakhshan.
According to the Afghanistan United Front, an organisation led by former Afghan General Yasin Zia, a Taliban intelligence team was ambushed in Taloqan, the provincial capital of Takhar. The group claimed that four personnel, including a key commander, were killed or injured in the attack, while their vehicle was completely destroyed. The organisation further claimed that three Taliban personnel were killed and two others injured in an attack on a checkpoint along the Kabul North Highway in Parwan province.
Meanwhile, the Afghan Green Trend, an organisation led by former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, claimed that a military vehicle belonging to the Taliban’s 219th Brigade was targeted in Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan. According to the group, the vehicle was completely destroyed.
The series of attacks claimed by anti-Taliban groups has placed the security situation under considerable pressure across several Afghan provinces.
