Taliban Policies Trigger Record Decline in Humanitarian Aid for Afghanistan

Kabul — Afghanistan continues to face growing international isolation as a result of the Taliban regime's hardline policies. The consequences of this diplomatic isolation are being borne by ordinary Afghans, who are facing an increasingly severe humanitarian crisis.

According to the latest report by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), international humanitarian funding for Afghanistan has fallen to its lowest level on record, significantly disrupting relief operations across the country.

Only One Dollar Available Out of Every Six Needed

The NRC report highlights several alarming developments regarding Afghanistan's humanitarian situation:

• Severe Funding Shortfall: The report states that for every six dollars required to meet humanitarian needs in Afghanistan, only one dollar is currently available, leaving a substantial funding gap.
• End of U.S. Assistance: The United States, which previously provided around 40% of Afghanistan's international humanitarian assistance, has ended its financial support.

Afghanistan Added to List of the World's Most Neglected Crises

Afghanistan International, citing the NRC report, stated that Afghanistan has become one of the world's most underfunded humanitarian emergencies. The report also marks the first time that the NRC has included Afghanistan among the world's most neglected displacement and humanitarian crises.

According to analysts, ongoing human rights concerns, security challenges, and governance issues have contributed to Afghanistan's continued international isolation.

German Afghanistan analyst Thomas Ruttig emphasized that the international community should maintain a principled approach, stating that the Taliban should not receive diplomatic recognition until they demonstrate respect for the rights of all Afghans, particularly women.
