Strait of Hormuz Belongs to No Single Country, Says Marco Rubio

Manama: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during a press conference in Bahrain that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and does not belong to any single country. He rejected proposals to impose transit or passage fees in the Strait, saying the idea has not received support from Gulf countries and that Oman has also made it clear that no such fees will be introduced.
Speaking about Iran, Rubio said President Donald Trump’s position is clear. He stated that the United States is closely monitoring Iran’s commitments and would not tolerate any violation of an agreement. However, he added that if Iran is genuinely interested in reaching a constructive and lasting agreement, the United States is prepared to engage.
"The U.S. President’s position regarding the Strait of Hormuz is clear. If Iran wants a positive and constructive agreement, the United States is ready to welcome it," Rubio said.
Briefing on Gulf Visits and International Affairs
Marco Rubio described his meetings with the King of Bahrain and other Gulf leaders as positive and constructive. He said the discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, regional security, and major international issues.
He also clarified that the meetings did not include discussions regarding reconstruction funding for Iran.
