Security Forces Kill TTP Commander in Balochistan’s Pishin
*QUETTA:* Security forces killed a key commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to by the state as Fitna al-Khwarij, during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Pishin district on Wednesday.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out in the Shaban area of Pishin after intelligence agencies traced Afghan militant commander Basir, son of Noorullah, who was allegedly involved in planning multiple attacks against security forces.
Sources said Basir was serving as an operational commander for infiltration groups attempting to enter Pakistan through the Shaban area. During the operation, security forces also arrested one of his Afghan accomplices.
Officials described the killing of Basir as a significant success in the ongoing campaign against militancy in the region.
Security sources further revealed that on February 22, security forces had eliminated five suicide bombers linked to Fitna al-Khwarij in Pishin. The militants were reportedly operating under Basir’s supervision.
Operations against terrorist groups are continuing under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, security officials said.
Operation Azm-e-Istehkam was approved by the Apex Committee under the National Action Plan in June 2024 with the objective of eliminating terrorism and extremism across Pakistan through comprehensive and decisive action.
