Quetta (Balochistan News)Political and social leader and former federal minister Zubaida Jalal has expressed concern over reports regarding the possible demolition of the Balochistan Assembly building and has demanded its preservation.
In her statement, she said that the Balochistan Assembly building was constructed in the 1970s during the tenure of then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Governor Nawab Akbar Bugti, while it was inaugurated after the 1988 general elections by Nawab Akbar Bugti.
According to Zubaida Jalal, the building is not merely a government structure but a symbol of Balochi architecture and the identity of Baloch society. She said that recent reports about its possible demolition are surprising, as the building is not in such a dilapidated condition that it needs to be torn down.
Giving an example, she said that the old Sindh Assembly building was preserved and not demolished; therefore, the same approach should be adopted for the Balochistan Assembly building.
Zubaida Jalal demanded that instead of demolishing the structure, it should be converted into a museum or library so that it continues to reflect the history and culture of Balochistan.
She suggested that a Quaid-e-Azam Museum or a Jinnah Library-style digital library should be established there, which would enable the youth of Balochistan to connect with global research and academic networks.
