Passenger Coach Crashes on M-8 Highway, 8 Killed and 30 Injured

At least eight people were killed and more than 30 injured in a horrific accident involving a passenger coach on the M-8 Highway in Balochistan’s Jhal Magsi district. The accident occurred on Thursday near the Barija area.

According to police officials, the passenger coach was traveling from Kharan to Larkana when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle during the journey, resulting in a severe crash. Several passengers were trapped inside the wreckage following the accident.

Immediately after the incident, rescue personnel and local residents launched relief operations and shifted the injured passengers from the coach to safer locations.

District Health Officer Ali Magsi stated that the injured were provided emergency medical treatment at BHU Barija, while the bodies of the deceased were also transported to the hospital. Among those killed were a woman and a child.

Medical officials said that seven injured passengers were in critical condition and were shifted to hospitals in Larkana for further treatment.

According to rescue authorities, relief efforts faced difficulties due to a shortage of ambulances and medical facilities in the area. However, rescue teams continued evacuation and assistance operations for the injured.

Meanwhile, police reached the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident, cordoned off the area, and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Officials said it is not yet clear whether the accident occurred due to overspeeding, mechanical failure, or poor road conditions. Police added that further details will be released after eyewitness statements and vehicle inspections are completed.

Traffic accidents on highways across Pakistan are becoming an increasingly serious issue, particularly in areas where emergency medical services and safety measures remain inadequate.
