SLAMABAD:* Pakistan and Japan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the petroleum sector, particularly in geosciences and mineral research.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding future collaboration in geosciences, laboratory procedures, scientific research, and technical capacity building.
Speaking on the occasion, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said Pakistan and Japan share a long history of scientific cooperation in geosciences and mineral exploration.
He stated that the establishment of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratories in collaboration with Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) marked an important milestone in bilateral relations.
The minister said Pakistan was modernizing its mineral sector by replacing conventional methods with advanced technologies to improve exploration and research capabilities.
Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen scientific infrastructure and expressed Japan’s interest in promoting technical cooperation and scientific exchanges in the field of geosciences.
