Historic Progress in Pakistan-China Capital Market Cooperation
Karachi: Pakistan and China have achieved a new milestone in financial cooperation by further strengthening their economic partnership. Service Long March Tyres, a joint venture between Pakistan's Service Group and China's Chaoyang Long March Tyre Company, has officially launched its listing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The joint venture raised US$28 million through its public offering, making it the largest Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the history of Pakistan's private sector. It also marks the first public listing of a Chinese-invested company in Pakistan, opening a new chapter in financial cooperation between the two countries.
Boosting Local Manufacturing and Reducing Imports
The landmark investment is expected to have long-term benefits for Pakistan's economy and industrial sector.
Growth in Local Tyre Manufacturing: International-standard tyres will be produced in Pakistan using advanced Chinese technology.
Lower Import Dependence: Increased domestic production is expected to significantly reduce reliance on imported tyres.
Expansion of Exports: The project aims not only to meet local demand but also to promote the export of Pakistani-made tyres to international markets.
New Commitment to Market Infrastructure and Islamic Finance
With the successful listing, both countries have agreed to deepen cooperation in developing future financial market infrastructure.
Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs): Pakistan and China will collaborate to strengthen market infrastructure through ETF-based investment products.
Islamic Finance: Cooperation will also expand in Islamic finance and other innovative investment products to attract a broader range of investors.
