Maritime Milestone: NDMS Signs Strategic Port Qasim Dredging Contract to Boost Blue Economy
In a major stride toward maritime self-reliance, the National Dredging and Marine Services (NDMS) has officially signed a landmark dredging contract with the Port Qasim Authority.
The strategic initiative is poised to drastically reduce Pakistan's dependence on foreign dredging conglomerates, saving millions in precious foreign exchange reserves while modernizing national port infrastructure.
The formal signing ceremony, held at the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) Headquarters, was graced by the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who attended as the chief guest. Top-tier officials from Port Qasim, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), and board members of NDMS were also in attendance.
Enhancing Navigational Channels and Port Capacity
The newly inked dredging project is being hailed as a critical turning point for the expansion of Port Qasim and the optimization of its deep-sea shipping channels. By deepening the approach channels, the project will directly enable the seamless navigation and berthing of mega-cargo vessels, effectively scaling up the port's operational capacity.
