The campaign to promote Hindutva ideology and erase Muslim historical heritage has intensified under the rule of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to a report published in the international magazine Shia Views, municipal authorities in the capital, New Delhi, are continuing aggressive operations to evict people from mosques and historic Islamic sites and demolish these structures.

According to the report, basic utilities, including electricity and water, have already been disconnected at several sites facing demolition. The magazine further reported that dozens of mosques and religious seminaries have been demolished or destroyed during more than 2,000 operations across various Indian states.

Meanwhile, international broadcaster Al Jazeera has reported that Indian opposition figures and Muslim leaders have described these bulldozer operations as a political weapon used by Narendra Modi against Muslims. According to analysts and political leaders, the Modi government’s actions pose a serious threat to India’s professed constitutional and secular framework and the protection of minority rights.
