Hindutva Group Accused of Discrimination Against Women, Modi Government Faces Global Embarrassment
Paris: The alleged discriminatory treatment of women by an extremist Hindutva organization in France has drawn strong international criticism of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s narrative.
According to the Indian publication The Wire, the alleged anti-women actions of an extremist Hindu organization in France have exposed the weaknesses in the Modi government’s claims of a “Shining India.” The report says Narendra Modi’s close association with the group has brought what it describes as the real face of Hindutva into the global spotlight.
Meanwhile, prominent French publication Le Figaro reported that the incident involving the extremist Hindu organization, BAPS, represents an alleged violation of France’s fundamental principles of equality and non-discrimination. According to the publication, the group’s actions have exposed what it describes as India’s growing intolerance to the international community.
Commenting on the situation, prominent Indian writer Srimoyee Piu Kundu said that following such incidents, India is increasingly being viewed internationally as a society that is hostile toward women, discriminatory and intolerant.
The international criticism over the controversial conduct of Hindutva organizations toward women has further challenged India’s claims regarding gender equality.
