In a significant boost to regional maritime trade, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, announced the successful berthing of a major international cargo vessel, the "MV Yuan Hong Wei," at Gwadar Port on Monday.
Cargo Volume and Origins
The arrival of the vessel underscores Gwadar's growing capacity to handle diverse international shipments. According to the Federal Minister:
Total Tonnage: The ship is carrying 54,000 tons of cargo in total.
Breakdown: This includes 34,000 tons of heavy machinery/bulk cargo and 20,000 tons of general goods.
Route: The cargo originated from Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, highlighting Gwadar's role as a transshipment and landing hub for Gulf-based trade.
Incentivizing Global Shipping: Major Fee Reductions
To further solidify Gwadar's competitive edge and attract global shipping lines, the federal government has announced a substantial reduction in port tariffs:
Berthing Fees: Slashed by 25%.
Container Handling: Charges reduced by 40%.
General Port Charges: Decreased by up to 31%.
Storage Incentive: General cargo can now be stored at the port for up to one month free of charge.
