FIA Chaman Cracks Down on Hawala Hundi Network
CHAMAN: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Balochistan Zone has achieved a major breakthrough in its crackdown against illegal Hawala/Hundi operators and unlawful currency exchange networks operating in border areas.
According to FIA officials, the operations were conducted under the special directives of FIA Balochistan Zone Director Muhammad Behram Khan.
FIA Chaman carried out a series of successful raids and registered multiple cases under Sections 8 and 23 of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) 1947 (Amended 2020), along with provisions of the Foreigners Act 1946.
Authorities said individuals involved in illegal Hawala/Hundi business and unlawful foreign exchange activities were arrested and presented before the Court of the District and Sessions Judge Chaman.
The investigations were led by Inspector Muhammad Idrees Khan under the supervision of Assistant Director Nadeem Ghafar, resulting in convictions in six separate cases.
FIA officials stated that several accused linked to illegal Hawala/Hundi operations were convicted, while foreign nationals involved in unlawful financial activities were deported to Afghanistan.
During the operations, authorities confiscated Rs1.8 million in favor of the state, while courts also imposed fines and awarded sentences equivalent to the period already served in custody.
FIA Balochistan said the successful operations reflected the agency’s commitment to eliminating illegal currency exchange, Hawala/Hundi networks, and cross-border financial crimes to safeguard the national economy.
Director FIA Balochistan Muhammad Behram Khan appreciated the performance of FIA Chaman officers and reaffirmed that strict legal action against economic crimes would continue without discrimination.
