Chaman: Citizen killed in police firing, protest ends after negotiations

Quetta (Balochistan News)In Chaman, Abdul Bari alias Pehlwan was killed while another person was injured in an incident of police firing. According to police, the incident occurred late last night when two motorcyclists were signaled to stop; however, they allegedly did not stop, after which police opened fire, resulting in the death of one person on the spot and injury to another.

On the other hand, the deceased’s family claimed that Abdul Bari was a trader and innocent. Rejecting the police version, the family staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office along with the body, while the national highway in Chaman and Qilla Abdullah was also blocked.

Later, prolonged negotiations were held between the district administration, political and tribal elders, and the family members, after which an agreement was reached. According to the agreement, the officers involved in the incident will be suspended and a case will be registered against them. It was also agreed that the FIR registered by the police will be withdrawn, the deceased will be declared a martyr and compensation will be provided, and a judicial commission will be formed for a transparent investigation of the incident.

After the agreement, the family ended the protest, the national highway was reopened for traffic, and the body was handed over for burial in the ancestral graveyard.
