QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Thursday witnessed a heated session as lawmakers condemned the escalating violence and the failure of the provincial administration to protect key installations and high-profile citizens.
Academic Leadership Under Attack
Former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch raised the alarming issue of the kidnapping of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Gwadar University. "This is not merely an act of terrorism; there is a deeper conspiracy behind it," Dr. Malik stated. He highlighted the paralysis of the state, noting that even influential tribal leaders are currently unable to travel to their homes due to road closures and the threat of violence.
Allegations of Arson at Customs Warehouse
Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Rehmat Saleh Baloch brought the house's attention to the devastating fire at the Customs warehouse, alleging that the blaze was a deliberate act of sabotage.
"The fire didn't just happen; it was ignited. The scale of destruction is immense—traders have lost goods worth over PKR 15 billion," he remarked. He compared the intensity of the loss to war zones, demanding immediate compensation for the business community.
Speaker’s Intervention
Taking notice of the grievances, the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly has summoned the Senior Collector of Customs to provide a comprehensive briefing to the assembly members regarding the fire incident and the subsequent economic fallout
