A two-member bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC), headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Najam Ud-Din Mengal, heard a case related to ongoing development and traffic management projects in Quetta and directed authorities to ensure their timely completion.
During the hearing, the court issued instructions for the immediate completion of work on Samungli Road and Sariab Service Road. The Additional Attorney General presented an interim report on behalf of the Quetta Cantonment Board, while the Project Director of the Chief Minister’s Quetta Development Package (CMQDP) submitted a proposed master plan regarding traffic management and road improvements.
The court was informed that joint meetings and site inspections with the Cantonment Board had already been conducted, a topographic map prepared, and the detailed master plan sent to the central committee for final approval.
Representatives of the Methodist Church also presented 3D proposals aimed at improving traffic flow and beautification around Imdad Chowk and Zarghoon Road.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Balochistan Traffic Engineering Bureau (BTEB) briefed the court on projects underway to improve traffic management on Hali Road, Zarghoon Road, and areas surrounding the High Court.
The petitioner expressed concerns that proposed U-turns near the railway station and Colon Road could create severe traffic congestion and inconvenience for the public. Alternative U-turns at Imdad Chowk and near the railway station were suggested to avoid gridlock.
The court directed the CMQDP Project Director and the BTEB Director General to review the proposed sites in detail and submit a comprehensive report.
Expressing concern over delays caused by restrictions imposed by the Cantonment Board, the bench ordered the immediate completion of asphalt work on Samungli Road and Sariab Service Road, emphasizing that no institution would be allowed to obstruct development projects.
The court also directed authorities to regularly submit progress reports. The hearing was adjourned until June 4.
