Armed Resistance Intensifies Against Taliban Regime in Afghanistan, 73 Attacks Claimed in Two and a Half Months
Armed resistance against the Taliban administration in Afghanistan has intensified significantly, challenging the Kabul government’s claims of maintaining complete security control over the country. A series of attacks on multiple fronts since mid-year has placed the Taliban regime under mounting security pressure.
According to a report by Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh, three major armed groups opposed to the Taliban — the National Resistance Front (NRF), Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and United Front — claimed responsibility for a combined 73 operations between July and September 1.
The report said that, in addition to these major factions, the Homeland Soldiers Front, National Mobilization Front, Freedom Movement and Freedom and Justice Movement have also claimed attacks targeting Taliban forces in various parts of the country.
According to the Afghan publication, the armed groups are seeking to increase pressure on the Taliban through such operations, influence international public opinion, strengthen their supply lines and capitalize on regional and international rivalries.
The report further stated that declining public support for the Taliban, deepening internal divisions and growing public grievances have contributed to the expansion of resistance fronts.
