Armed Resistance Against Afghan Taliban Intensifies, Claims of Advances from Northern Provinces

Kabul — Clashes between the Afghan Taliban and opposing armed groups have suddenly intensified across Afghanistan’s northern and northeastern provinces, raising serious questions about the Taliban administration’s claims of complete control and nationwide peace.

NRF Makes New Claims of Advances in Outlying Areas

The National Resistance Front (NRF) has claimed that a large number of Afghan youths, dissatisfied with Taliban policies, are joining its ranks.

Youth Recruitment:

According to the NRF, more than 2,000 young people from Badakhshan, Balkh, Panjshir, and other regions have joined resistance groups.

Checkpoint Captured in Zebak:

According to Afghan journalist Usman Bazgar, the Afghanistan Freedom Front has announced that it has taken control of an important Taliban security checkpoint in the Zebak district of Badakhshan province.

Local Resistance:

An NRF spokesperson claimed that various parts of Badakhshan are increasingly coming under the influence of local resistance forces.

Criticism of Taliban Claims and the Regional Situation

Former Afghan diplomats and analysts say that growing military activity in northern Afghanistan has exposed weaknesses in the Taliban’s security strategy.

Fayaz Ghiasi, Former Afghan Diplomat:

“Basic freedoms have been suppressed in Afghanistan, but the process of liberating Badakhshan and other northern and northeastern provinces from Taliban control has begun.”

According to defence experts, the ongoing clashes and guerrilla operations in the mountainous areas of Badakhshan and its surroundings indicate that the Taliban administration is facing long-term security challenges in northern Afghanistan.
