Ajai Shukla Highlights Modi Government’s Foreign Policy and Defence Failures
Prominent Indian defence journalist Ajai Shukla has criticized the Modi government’s foreign policy and defence policies, while raising questions over administrative shortcomings, defence procurement and the treatment of minorities.
The Indian journalist said that the BJP government’s claims of making India a “Vishwa Guru” and projecting a “Shining India” have failed to match reality. He also questioned India’s approach at international forums and its handling of regional diplomatic pressures.
Shukla has previously criticized the “Make in India” approach in the defence sector, arguing that licensed production of foreign equipment does not necessarily create genuine indigenous defence capabilities. He has also pointed to the continued dependence on foreign technology and components in several major defence programmes.
He has also raised concerns about India’s defence procurement system and the role of government policy in favouring selected large companies, arguing that greater competition and genuine indigenous research and development are needed.
Regarding India’s internal situation, the claims attributed to Shukla include concerns over treatment of minorities and the political use of communal issues. These are political allegations and should be understood as his reported views rather than independently established facts.
