KALAT: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Regional Office in Kalat has taken a significant step towards digital education by introducing online learning classes under its distance learning system.
As part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, laptops were distributed among students from nine districts of Balochistan, aiming to equip young people with modern digital tools and enhance access to education.
A formal ceremony was held at the AIOU Regional Office Kalat, where Additional Deputy Commissioner Shah Nawaz Baloch and Deputy Regional Director AIOU Haml Baloch distributed laptops among the students.
Speaking on the occasion, officials described the initiative as a transformative step to connect the younger generation with technology, research, and modern educational resources.
They said the scheme not only ensures access to education but also helps students develop independence, confidence, and essential digital skills.
Officials emphasized that the current era is driven by knowledge, research, and information technology, adding that nations investing in modern education and science achieve long-term progress and prosperity.
According to officials, a total of 26 students from nine districts of Balochistan received laptops during the ceremony.
They noted that Balochistan’s youth are highly talented and can excel in various fields if provided with adequate opportunities and resources. The initiative, they added, reflects the vision of Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan and Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who are committed to youth development and education.
Students were advised to utilize the laptops for educational and research purposes to improve academic performance and avoid unnecessary social media use.
The programme is expected to boost digital literacy, strengthen academic research, and prepare students in Balochistan to meet the challenges of the modern digital world.
