Afghan Taliban Face Growing Armed Resistance in Several Provinces as Grip Appears to Weaken

Badakhshan — Armed resistance against the Afghan Taliban has intensified in various parts of Afghanistan, with continued attacks by armed groups raising questions over the Taliban’s claims of maintaining complete control over the country.

According to Afghan broadcaster Aamaj News, four Taliban personnel were killed and seven wounded in recent clashes between the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the Afghan Taliban in Badakhshan province.

Meanwhile, the anti-Taliban alliance, the National Resistance Front (NRF), has also claimed responsibility for an operation in Raghistan district of Badakhshan, in which one Taliban personnel was killed and six others were wounded. According to the NRF, the attacks also inflicted heavy financial losses on the Taliban, while civilians remained completely safe during the operation.

The NRF further stated that its targeted operations would continue across Afghanistan as part of its campaign for what it described as freedom from the Taliban’s “illegal rule.”

Regarding the latest situation, analysts say that armed movements active in Badakhshan, Herat, Takhar and other Afghan provinces have emerged as a major challenge for the Taliban administration. According to analysts, the rapid spread of armed resistance against the Taliban is a clear indication of what they describe as the administration’s weakening grip and growing public frustration, which, combined with internal divisions, could pose a serious threat to the existing political setup.
