Wheat scandal case: Anti-Corruption Court issues major verdict, 3 accused sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and fined

Peshawar (Balochistan News Desk)Anti-Corruption Court Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced its verdict in the government wheat scandal case, sentencing three accused to 7 years imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs. 3 million.

The court also ordered the recovery of losses worth millions of rupees caused to the national exchequer.

The case was heard by Judge Asif Rasheed, while the prosecution informed the court that more than 3,000 wheat bags went missing from the Azakhel grain storage, resulting in an estimated loss of over Rs. 190 million.

Those convicted include storage officer Muhammad Arshad, assistant food controller Khalid Khan, and former employee Tila Muhammad. The court also imposed an additional fine of Rs. 1 million on Tila Muhammad, with an extra six months imprisonment in case of non-payment.

Two food inspectors, Atif and Junaid, were acquitted due to insufficient evidence, while one accused in the case remains absconding.

Officials have termed the verdict an important step in anti-corruption efforts.
