US Members of Congress Visit Lahore’s Historic and Cultural Landmarks

Lahore — A high-level American delegation comprising US Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner visited Lahore’s prominent historic and cultural sites. During the visit, the delegation praised Pakistan’s rich history, Mughal architecture, and cultural heritage.

Key Highlights of the Visit

Visit to Allama Iqbal’s Mausoleum:

The delegation visited the mausoleum of Pakistan’s national poet, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, laid a floral wreath, and recorded their remarks in the visitors’ book.

Exploration of Mughal Architecture:

The members of Congress toured the 17th-century architectural masterpieces, including the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort.

Briefing on Heritage Preservation:

Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, Najam Saqib, briefed the delegation on ongoing efforts to restore and preserve Lahore’s historic heritage.

Tribute to the Thinker of Pakistan

The US delegation began its visit at the mausoleum of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet and thinker of Pakistan, located near Hazuri Bagh.

The members of Congress laid flowers at the mausoleum, offered prayers, and wrote their impressions in the visitors’ book. They paid rich tribute to Allama Iqbal’s intellectual, literary, and philosophical contributions.

Visit to Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort

The American delegation later visited the magnificent Badshahi Mosque, where officials briefed them on its religious, historical, and architectural significance.

The delegation was also informed about the distinctive features of the 17th-century architectural masterpiece.

The delegation then visited the historic Lahore Fort, where its members viewed the internationally renowned Picture Wall, Sheesh Mahal, and other historic sections of the fort.

Preservation of Historic Heritage

Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, Najam Saqib, gave the delegation a comprehensive briefing on the conservation, restoration, and cultural significance of Lahore’s ancient heritage.
