Imphal/New Delhi: The situation in the Indian state of Manipur has once again become highly tense amid what critics describe as the BJP-led Modi government’s ineffective and failed policies, bringing local residents and security forces into direct confrontation.

According to Indian media reports, residents in Senapati district became enraged following an alleged search operation by security forces and stormed a military camp belonging to the Assam Rifles.

Prominent Indian newspaper The New Indian Express confirmed the worsening law and order situation in Manipur, reporting that protesters heavily pelted the Assam Rifles building with stones, vandalised the military compound and set three government vehicles parked there on fire.

Officials said security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the angry crowd.

International Community and Human Rights Organisations Express Serious Concern

Indian media outlets and international observers have described the incident as evidence of the Modi government’s administrative failure.

Increase in attacks: According to The Economic Times, this was the third major attack on the Assam Rifles within the past 10 days, reflecting growing public distrust of the security institutions.

Amnesty International’s reaction: International human rights organisation Amnesty International stated that the BJP government has completely failed to protect human rights and prevent ongoing ethnic and political violence in Manipur.

Experts say the increasing attacks by local residents on security forces indicate that the Modi government has lost both its moral authority and administrative credibility to restore peace in the region.
