Rawalpindi — Pakistan's security forces foiled a major terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in South Waziristan through what the military described as a swift and professional response. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), four militants, including a suicide bomber, were killed during the operation.

ISPR stated that militants belonging to the group it refers to as "Fitna al-Khawarij," which it says is backed by India, attempted to attack a security forces' checkpoint in South Waziristan. Alert troops responded immediately and successfully thwarted the assault.

Explosive-Laden Vehicle Destroyed Outside the Checkpoint

According to ISPR, the attackers attempted to breach the checkpoint's defenses using an explosives-filled vehicle. Security forces engaged the vehicle before it reached the checkpoint, destroying it outside the perimeter.

The military said the suicide bomber inside the vehicle was killed instantly, while the checkpoint remained unharmed.

Clearance Operation Eliminates Remaining Attackers

Following the initial explosion, security personnel surrounded the remaining attackers and confined them inside a nearby compound.

ISPR said that during a subsequent precision clearance operation, all three remaining militants were killed.

Key Highlights

  • No Security Force Casualties: No personnel were killed or injured during the operation.
  • Four Militants Eliminated: One suicide bomber was killed inside the explosives-laden vehicle, while three others were killed during the clearance operation.
  • Sanitization Operation Underway: A search operation is continuing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.

ISPR stated that, under the National Action Plan's federally approved "Azm-e-Istehkam" strategy, security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counterterrorism operations with full resolve to eliminate militancy and terrorism.
