Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical Conference: Nine Agreements Worth $440 Million Signed

Islamabad — With the support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Pakistan and China have entered a new phase of cooperation in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare sectors. During the two-day Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B Investment Conference held in Islamabad, both countries signed major strategic agreements aimed at increasing local production.

B2B Investment Conference Marks Major Progress in Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical Cooperation

The conference, organised with the support of SIFC, provided a joint platform for the business communities of both countries.

Large-Scale Participation: More than 300 leading pharmaceutical companies, Chinese suppliers, investors, and business representatives from Pakistan and China participated in the conference.

Nine Agreements Worth $440 Million: As a result of joint business meetings, nine major investment agreements worth approximately $440 million were signed to promote biotechnology and local pharmaceutical production.

Research and Innovation: Chinese investors acknowledged Pakistan’s broad investment potential and said both countries have excellent opportunities for long-term cooperation in research, innovation, and the pharmaceutical sector.

Local Vaccine Production and Fulfilment of Domestic Needs

Industry experts and business leaders described the agreements as a major milestone towards self-reliance in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry.

Most Important Point: Zafar Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer of WeSoul Group and LDS Pharma, said these agreements with Chinese partners would make local vaccine production possible in Pakistan. This would help meet domestic requirements and save valuable foreign exchange.

Deregulation and Growing Investor Confidence

Kamran Nasir, Group Managing Director of OBS and Chief Executive Officer of AGP Limited, congratulated the Ministry of National Health Services, SIFC, and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan on the successful organisation of the conference.

He said SIFC’s key role in the deregulation of Pakistan’s emerging pharmaceutical sector had further strengthened the confidence of international investors and would pave the way for greater foreign investment in the future.
