New Wave of Ethnic Violence in Manipur Exposes Modi Government’s Failure

Dozens of Homes Torched in Imphal, The Statesman Reports

New Delhi — July 13, 2026: The Indian state of Manipur has once again been engulfed by ethnic violence. The Modi government’s one-sided and failed policies have pushed the state to the brink of a devastating civil conflict, with ethnic clashes intensifying sharply in recent days.

India’s own prominent publication, The Statesman, has exposed the Modi government’s failure in its latest report on the situation in Manipur.

According to the Indian publication, enraged groups set several houses on fire in the southern area of Imphal district, triggering severe tension across the region. The incident has once again shattered claims that peace has been restored in Manipur.

A large contingent of security forces has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. Two individuals, including the head of Hengjang village, have also been arrested over their alleged involvement in the incident.

Modi Government Changes Tactics to Conceal Its Failure

Prominent Indian human rights activist Nandita Haksar strongly criticised the Modi government over the deteriorating situation in Manipur and highlighted the following realities:

Attempt to distort the facts: The Modi government is attempting to conceal the underlying domestic and political causes of the continuing violence in Manipur.

Baseless claims of foreign interference: To cover up its own incompetence, the Modi government is reportedly using allegations of “foreign interference” as an unsubstantiated justification.

Deteriorating law and order: The latest horrific riots and incidents of properties being set ablaze demonstrate that the BJP government has completely failed to maintain peace and order in the state.
