Makkah Defense Pact: Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia Announce Historic Joint Security Agreement

Makkah (Web Desk) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has confirmed what was described as a historic Joint Defense Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. The Turkish president announced the development in a statement posted on his official X account.

According to President Erdoğan, he visited Makkah at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, where he held an important trilateral meeting with the Saudi crown prince and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

During the high-level meeting, the three countries signed what was described as a comprehensive framework for enhanced defense and security cooperation.

Key Features of the Agreement

• Collective Defense Capabilities: The agreement will provide a framework for strengthening joint security, defense preparedness and cooperation in the defense industry among the three countries.
• Counterterrorism Cooperation: Under the agreement, the three countries will enhance practical cooperation aimed at combating terrorism across the region.
• UN Charter: President Erdoğan said the defense agreement reaffirmed the principle of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Peace, Prosperity and Diplomatic Approach

The Turkish president rejected the perception that the agreement was directed against any particular country, emphasizing:

“This agreement is not intended to confront any country. It will remain open to all brotherly nations that seek peace, prosperity and stability in the region.”

He further stated that Türkiye would continue to uphold its principled commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving conflicts and crises.

Concluding his remarks, President Erdoğan expressed hope that the historic agreement reached in Makkah would bring peace, stability, prosperity and greater cooperation to the entire region.
