Linking Soldiers' Sacrifice to Their Salaries Reflects Moral Insensitivity, Says Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized recent remarks made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, describing them as disrespectful to the sacrifices of the country's fallen soldiers. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the defence minister rejected the comments and emphasized the significance of honoring those who laid down their lives in service of the nation.

"Sacrifice Is Driven by Duty, Not Salary"

Khawaja Asif said it was unfair to associate the sacrifices made by military personnel with their salaries or employment.

He stated:

"No one sacrifices the most precious thing they have—their life—simply for a salary. Such sacrifices are inspired by conviction, a sense of duty, commitment, and love for the homeland."

The defence minister added that while political leaders and citizens have every right to disagree with government policies or national affairs, such disagreements should not undermine or disrespect the sacrifices made for the country's security and survival.

"The Remarks Hurt the Families of Martyrs"

Referring to Pakistan's ongoing fight against terrorism, Khawaja Asif said security forces and civilians continue to make sacrifices every day in the pursuit of peace and stability.
