Iran Rejects Possibility of Meeting Between Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and US President Donald Trump

TEHRAN: Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, has firmly dismissed the possibility of a meeting between the Iranian leader and US President Donald Trump, stating that there is currently no prospect of such an engagement. He stressed that Washington must first change its hardline policies toward Tehran.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Rezaei said that President Trump himself has contributed to the stagnation of diplomatic engagement with Iran. However, he noted that positive steps by the United States could open new avenues for improving relations between the two countries.

Restoration of Iranian Assets and End to Economic Pressure Are Key Conditions

During the interview, Rezaei delivered a clear message to the US administration, urging President Trump to prioritize the interests of the American people over personal political considerations. He outlined several conditions for reducing tensions between the two nations.

“If the United States ends its policy of economic pressure and sanctions against Iran and restores Iranian assets frozen in international banks, a new horizon could emerge for future Iran-US relations.”

He added that many of the complex issues between Tehran and Washington could be resolved if President Trump demonstrates political will and courage. According to Rezaei, diplomacy and mutual respect—not confrontation—are in the best interests of both the region and the wider international community.

Response to Trump’s Claim About a Possible Future Meeting

The remarks came in response to recent comments made by President Trump during the Pod Force One podcast, where he suggested that a future meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei could be possible.

Trump stated that Iran’s senior leadership is actively involved in ongoing diplomatic contacts and negotiations with the United States and that the Supreme Leader is fully informed about the process.

The US President further indicated that a meeting could take place if a comprehensive agreement is reached between the two countries. However, he reiterated Washington’s longstanding position, warning that Iran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
