IMF talks stress budget reforms and improvement in tax system

Islamabad (Commerce Desk) — Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund have agreed to continue discussions in the coming days regarding the federal budgets for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

The talks focused on economic reforms, expansion of the tax net, and improving the efficiency of the revenue collection system. Authorities expressed commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline and continuing expenditure reforms.

During the discussions, the possible impact of recent regional tensions on the economy was also reviewed, while energy sector subsidies and reform measures were also discussed.

The central bank assured that it would continue a tight monetary policy to control inflation.

Both sides agreed that continuing the reform process is essential for economic stability and sustainable growth.
