Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has proposed establishing a 100-acre Mariculture Investment and Development Estate at Korangi Fisheries Harbour, describing the initiative as an important milestone for the promotion of Pakistan’s blue economy.

Korangi Fisheries Harbour in Karachi is a major hub for fishing and fisheries-related activities. Under the proposed project, fish farming, hatcheries, advanced research, processing, and value-addition facilities will be developed at a single location.

Under the proposed zoning plan, 30 acres have been allocated for the Mariculture Zone, 20 acres for the Hatchery Zone, 20 acres for an Aqua Research Park, and 20 acres for a Commercial District.

The proposed estate will feature modern cold-chain facilities, commercial infrastructure, world-class infrastructure, and advanced environmental sustainability systems. The project is expected to help modernize Pakistan’s fisheries sector, increase national exports, and accelerate economic activity in coastal areas.
