ECC gives key approval: extension of Prime Minister’s Housing Programme

Islamabad (Commerce Desk)The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the extension of the Prime Minister’s Housing Programme, the implementation of uniform system charges for all power distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country and K-Electric, along with several other important projects.

According to the Ministry of Finance, a detailed review of various development and administrative matters was conducted in a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The meeting decided that the revised framework will also include overseas Pakistanis and the private sector in order to increase investment opportunities in the housing sector.

Furthermore, approval was granted for gas supply to the revival of the National Steel Complex Limited, although its restoration has been made conditional on tariff adjustments and gas availability.

The committee also approved the launch of the second phase of the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification Programme, aimed at promoting electric vehicles and improving accessibility across the country.

In the same meeting, it was decided to implement uniform system charges for all DISCOs and K-Electric to ensure greater coordination in the power sector.

According to the Ministry of Finance, a technical supplementary grant of Rs. 2.5 billion was also approved for the Passport and Immigration Department to cover salaries, dues, and operational expenses.

The ECC further approved Rs. 350 million for Islamabad Danish School, Rs. 100 million for the construction of the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Complex in Narowal, and Rs. 596 million for Independence Day and “Operation Haq” celebrations.
