Daily Two to Three Cups of Coffee Beneficial for Mental Health, New Study Reveals

Lahore (Health Desk) A new medical study has found that consuming two to three cups of coffee daily may help reduce the risk of mental disorders, suggesting that moderate coffee intake can be beneficial for mental health.

The study, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, reported that especially in men, drinking two to three cups of coffee per day may support better mental well-being, while consuming five or more cups daily was associated with an increased risk of mental health issues.

Researchers analyzed data from more than 460,000 participants of the UK Biobank, including individuals aged between 40 and 69 years. Information was collected regarding daily coffee consumption and different types of coffee, including decaffeinated, instant, and ground coffee. The participants were monitored for more than 13 years on average.

The study identified a pattern known as a J-shaped relationship, meaning that moderate consumption—neither too low nor too high—showed the most benefits.

According to experts, natural compounds in coffee such as caffeine and other bioactive ingredients may help reduce stress and inflammation, which can positively affect mental health.

The study also noted that mental health disorders are a major global health concern, and lifestyle habits along with preventive measures can significantly influence overall mental well-being.
