Bangladesh protests to India, summons High Commissioner over Assam CM statement

Dhaka (Monitoring Desk) – Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Indian Acting High Commissioner Pawan Badhe over what it called an allegedly derogatory statement by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to media reports, the Chief Minister of Assam had said in a post on the social media platform X that “these people do not understand the language of love, therefore they are being expelled from Assam,” and also claimed that 20 foreign nationals were detained and sent back to Bangladesh.

An official of the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry said that Director General (South Asia) Ishrat Jahan briefed the acting Indian High Commissioner on Dhaka’s position.

Bangladesh strongly protested the remarks, calling them offensive, and has sought clarification from India over the statement.
