Islamabad: A major breakthrough in global diplomacy has emerged following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as direct negotiations between the United States and Iran are set to begin today in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
According to Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry, senior representatives from both countries will meet to finalize mechanisms for implementing the agreement and to discuss the next phase of diplomatic engagement.
Representatives from Pakistan and Qatar, the two countries that played mediating roles in facilitating the agreement, are also expected to be present in Bürgenstock to provide diplomatic support and monitor the implementation process.
While Swiss authorities have not disclosed the identities of the delegates or the detailed agenda due to the sensitive nature of the talks, recent official statements indicate that references to participation by other countries have been removed from the final framework.
The diplomatic breakthrough follows the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was endorsed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the document as mediator on behalf of Pakistan, a move widely viewed as a significant diplomatic achievement for Islamabad.
Analysts believe the negotiations could mark the beginning of a new phase in regional diplomacy and contribute to broader stability in the Middle East and beyond.
