Karachi — Pakistan is witnessing a significant rise in young retail investors as improving economic conditions and stronger stock market performance encourage more people to invest in capital markets instead of relying solely on traditional savings.

According to a report by Arab News, 180,148 new retail investors registered with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) during the current fiscal year, marking one of the largest annual increases in individual investor participation.

Young people accounted for the largest share of these new registrations. Investors between the ages of 18 and 30 represented 41% of all new retail accounts, with 74,629 young investors joining the market during the year.

The report also noted that the PSX is adding an average of 15,000 new investor accounts every month, with nearly 40% of those accounts belonging to young investors.

Market analysts attribute the growing participation to improving macroeconomic stability, economic reforms, and increased accessibility through digital trading platforms and mobile investment applications. They also point to Pakistan's stock market performance over recent years, with the report stating that the PSX delivered an average annual 66% return in US dollar terms over the past three years, making it one of the region's top-performing markets.
