WADA completes investigation, hundreds of sanctions imposed on Russian athletes

Lahore (Sports Desk) – World Anti-Doping Agency has announced the successful completion of investigations based on data from the Moscow laboratory.

According to the organization, as a result of investigations conducted under Operation LIMS, 291 Russian athletes were penalized, while a total of 302 sanctions were imposed.

The report stated that athletes from 22 different sports were sanctioned by 23 anti-doping organizations, with weightlifting and athletics being the most affected.

Furthermore, 11 athletes were punished for multiple violations, while four cases are still under hearing.

WADA President Witold Bańka described the investigation as one of the most successful operations in history.

It is worth noting that in 2015, a state-sponsored doping program in Russia was exposed, after which the Russian anti-doping agency was suspended. However, it was reinstated in 2018 under strict conditions, and data obtained from the Moscow laboratory in 2019 provided the basis for further action.
