“The Enemy Will Never Forget Its Humiliating Defeat”: War Veterans Recall Stories of Courage
Islamabad — Decades after the 1965 Pakistan-India war, the hearts of its war veterans still beat with the same spirit of courage, determination and patriotism. On the solemn occasion of Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the veterans of the war have shared gripping stories from the battlefield, recalling how they confronted the enemy with remarkable bravery and changed the course of history.
The veterans believe that the historic victory achieved in the Battle of Truth was the result of years of hard work, professional expertise and rigorous training by Pakistan’s brave armed forces.
Bloody Battlefront and Unbreakable Resolve
Recalling the bloodshed and intense scenes of the battlefield, Subedar Major Ali Shan, a war veteran, said that the morale of Pakistani soldiers was so high that even after sustaining gunshot wounds, they did not lose their resolve.
“Despite being severely wounded during the war, our soldiers did not lose courage and fought the enemy with determination,” veteran Ali Shan recalled proudly.
He said in unequivocal terms that the enemy would never forget Pakistan’s remarkable victory and its own humiliating defeat in the 1965 Battle of Truth.
Military Leadership and Pakistan’s Global Standing
Reflecting on past victories in the context of the present, veteran Subedar Major Ali Shan also expressed strong confidence in the country’s current military leadership.
He said that the outstanding leadership capabilities and effective military strategy of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir have further enhanced the prestige of Pakistan and its armed forces at the international level.
An Unbreakable Wall: Army and Nation United as One
The 1965 war was not merely a battle fought along the borders; it was also a great demonstration of national unity. Another distinguished war veteran, Subedar Abdul Hafeez, recalled the fierce fighting and said that Pakistan Army soldiers launched such relentless attacks against the enemy that they were forced to retreat.
Warning the enemy, Subedar Abdul Hafeez said:
“The enemy now fully understands that the Pakistani nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces on every front and will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the motherland.”
Undoubtedly, the immortal sacrifices of our martyrs and Ghazis remain a guiding light for the nation and have made Pakistan’s defence stronger and more resilient.
