Tenth Day of the September 1965 War: Remembering the Immortal Sacrifices of Brave Pakistan Army Officers and Soldiers
The tenth day of the September 1965 Pakistan-India war carries the story of great sacrifices made in defence of the homeland.
On 10 September, brave officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army confronted the enemy on different fronts and laid down their lives in defence of the country.
On that day, Brigadier Ahsan Rashid Shami, Major Ali Abid Hussain, Captain Muhammad Hamidullah Khan, Major Sheikh Mubarak Ali, Major Sheikh Zahooruddin and Lieutenant Ahmad Munir Ahmad embraced martyrdom.
In the Kasur Sector, Brigadier Ahsan Rashid Shami, the Artillery Commander of the Armoured Division, stood firmly against the enemy. During an advance on 10 September, he entered Indian territory, where he was martyred after being hit by a burst of machine-gun fire. In recognition of his extraordinary bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Hilal-e-Jurat.
In the same sector, Major Ali Abid Hussain, who was commanding an artillery regiment, was martyred by Indian fire while inspecting the enemy’s destroyed positions in the Khem Karan Sector.
Major Sheikh Zahooruddin also advanced on the Kasur front, crossed Khem Karan and entered the Indian area of Asal Uttar. He fought bravely and ultimately sacrificed his life for the homeland.
In Narowal, Captain Muhammad Hamidullah Khan, serving as a Forward Observation Officer at the Jassar Bridge, was martyred after being hit by an enemy shell.
Meanwhile, in the Khem Karan Sector, Lieutenant Ahmad Munir Ahmad of an infantry battalion sacrificed his life while stopping the advance of Indian forces. In recognition of his courage and bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.
At Batapur on the GT Road, Major Sheikh Mubarak Ali of the Punjab Regiment was entrusted with the important responsibility of defending the BRB Canal. While forcing Indian troops to retreat from Dyal village, he was hit by a burst of machine-gun fire and embraced martyrdom. He was also posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.
