Provincial Government’s Failure: Key Zeran Road Project in Parachinar Allegedly Stalled Amid Administrative Negligence and Corruption Claims

Parachinar — Due to alleged administrative failure and serious negligence by the provincial government, a key development project in Upper Kurram has reportedly been pushed into limbo. The road project linking Parachinar with the important area of Zeran has not yet begun construction despite the tender being officially approved, exposing gaps in governance and project execution.

Local residents have expressed growing concern and anger over the prolonged delay, saying that a large population in the region continues to suffer due to lack of basic transportation infrastructure.

Allegations of fund delays and administrative irregularities

According to local elders and residents, several factors are being cited behind the prolonged suspension of the project:

Delay in contractor payments: Payments to the contractor have reportedly been withheld at the official level, resulting in a halt of work despite machinery and workforce being available.

Alleged demand for 15% commission: Locals have also alleged that the contractor was pressured to pay an illegal 15% commission in order to initiate work on the project.

Severe impact on daily life: Residents say the poor condition of the road has made daily travel extremely difficult. Patients, especially women and children, face major challenges in reaching hospitals, and in some cases delays in emergency transport have reportedly led to life-threatening situations.

Demand for immediate government action

People of Parachinar and Upper Kurram have demanded urgent intervention from higher authorities, including the Chief Justice and provincial leadership, calling for a transparent investigation into the matter.

They have urged that those responsible for alleged corruption and mismanagement be held accountable and that construction work on the road be resumed immediately to ease the suffering of the local population.
